My sister has always bagged me out for my love of list writing, she reckons I have lists for my lists (she’s right). Lists help me to empty my head of the many ideas that are floating, swimming and swarming in there at any one time. Lists help me to prioritise my time. Lists give me a sense of achievement and serve as a remind me of all the things I’ve actually managed to tick off. And don’t get me (or my partner) started on notebooks. Is there anything better than a fresh page in a new notebook awaiting a brand new list? Aaaah, bliss! For those of you less enthused about list writing/note books or less able to turn a to do list into a done list then maybe this 3 part daily planning system will work for you.
Must Do
Pick 3 things that absolutely are critical to your business and need to be completed today. Order them 1 to 3. I like to make number 1 the item I am least motivated to do and bowl that over first. If I’m feeling a little off then I pick the easiest job first and then the hardest second, using the sense of achievement from ticking off 1 item to propel me through the tougher jobs.
Just Do
This is a great way to clear the master to do list. Pick 3 things that will take less than 15 minutes to lock off and just get them done. It’s as close to instant gratification as you’ll get in the business to do stakes.
Want To
These are things you’d like to tick off the list if you get the rest sorted. These are non essential to be completed right now. As nice as it would be to have them done the arse won’t drop out of your biz if it doesn’t happen today. Eventually these things generally make their way onto the Must Do list but for now if you don’t get them done you can cut yourself some slack and just roll them over to another day.
