A theme for me at the moment is creating space to slow down. To notice. To calibrate.

This practice doesn’t need to be rigid. While I would love a full sabbatical, that isn’t the only way to create spaces for renewal and rest. Nature is a beautiful gift if we take it.

To slow down a walk from here to there takes only minutes but creates wide open expanses in our imagination and nervous system. To notice a feather on the ground, how it contrasts, what symbolism it might hold. The way a tree plays with light and form and colour like a painter. The movements and transitions from dusk to dawn, bird song, ripples, growth, decay and regeneration ebbing and flowing with the sun, moon and tides. To take time to fall into all of that and break free from our spinning minds or weary bodies or aching hearts or over stretched nervous systems. A series of mini momentary sabbaticals.

Sometimes that’s the best we can manage and it’s actually rather magical if we take it.
